Question:
Is it possible for everyone to do the splits?

Im 15 and have never done the straddle splits. And as everyone who watches any Jean Claude Van Damme movie, they absolutely want to do the splits. And I have for about...a couple days. Now, I have been taking Karate for about 4 months, so I guess it helps a bit.

Now, I'm not asking for any stretches, but I just want to know if everyone is able to do them, and if there's a way to tell, then please do. I have seen many sites that teach weekly stretches for the straddle split, but a couple that have said that not everyone can do it, so I just want to know if this is true or not.

So please, if you DO know the answer (not to get lame points) please let me know if everyone is possible to do the splits given enough time.
Thank YOu!

No it's not possible for everyone to do the splits.

Everyone has different flexibility levels, and an 18 year old on my dance team, who's been dancing for probably 11 years or so, can't yet do the splits. She's just unfortunate.

I can do the splits, however, and the only way to get to your best flexibility level is to do the splits every day, pushing yourself as far as you can go. Careful now! Don't push yourself too far or you'll pull a muscle and (or) severely injure yourself. Just go as far as you can (after you've done proper stretching) every single day, and eventually you'll reach your limit.

Lol of course everyone is able to do splits. I don't know what the makers of that website were smoking. I've been doing gymnastics for a few years, and I know all you have to do is do the straddle split 2 minutes every day. If it starts to hurt, don't come out of it or it'll take a REALLY long time (I learned from experience) Of course, when it starts to not hurt in that position, go a little bit farther until you go all the way down. But yeah if you wanna do a straddle split, do the stretch 2 minutes a day (if you don't know how to do it: stand up normally, spread your feet apart, hopefully you can go more than 90 degrees, and for support, put your hands on the floor.)

For straddle splits NO not everyone is capable.

This is not because they haven't stretched enough or whatever it is about your hips and their structure. Some peoples hips are not made for it.

Don't give up! You have only wanted them for a couple days. Keep stretching. You will soon know if your hips can take it.

Like another answerer said for the other splits it may not be possible for everyone to do it either [muscles].

Hope this was helpful!

I'm in ballet class and i can't do the split either. But, today I went to ballet class (every Saturday) and my split had improved form last time. my legs went lower each time. So, yes, you can do a split given a amount of time. keep on practicing and you'll get it soon. My ballet teachers push my legs down and even though my legs hurt form all the stretching, i think it's worth it. You should try ballet class and it can help you do a split. i love going to ballet class because it's fun. and i never could do a split, but i think one day...maybe just one day....I will...It is my goal to do a split. i always wanted to. I am improving and improving each time. Before ballet class, I couldn't put my forehead to my knee with out bending my leg, and now starting last week, I could. So, Yes, with a lot of practice, you CAN do a split one day. That's the reason why i joined ballet class - I wanted to improve my splits and my dream is to be a professional ballerina. So, try ballet class. You can ask someone (maybe your mom or dad or your siblings) to push your legs down everyday to push yourself and yes, it will hurt with all the stretching, but it will be worth it when you can do a split. I know how you feel because I've always wanted to do a split and I can't even do a cartwheel. But now, I'm working hard towards my dream. Try ballet class. Good Luck! :)

Some people just don't have the flexibility for it. One of my friends in dance has been stretching since like the 6th grade when he started dance and he still does not have his splits to this day, hes a junior in high school now. Just make sure you stretch everyday if your serious about it.

i believe it is possible for anyone to do the splits i started dancing about four months ago and i was never Flexible but now im about two inches away from my splits but remember its is very painful at first but it eventually gets easier and don't stretch while your body is cold do it after karate. my first day of dance class my teacher made me spread my legs into a center split and then she told me to take a deep breathe in and she sat on my back and i was completely on the floor and it hurt but u have to remember to BREATHE while doing stretches it helps a lot

It should be possible for anyone to do a split, unless you have a medical problem. Though i've been dancing for about two years, and i can't do straddle splits, or regular splits either, but if you work hard enough you should be able to do it.

Well, that depends. Men are usually less felible than women. If your a girl, and you take ballet or dance classes and stretch everyday, well than eventually, yes you will. I havent heard of a professional dancer than doesnt have their split. All it takes it flexibility, which you gain by your stetches and class.

Yes everyone is capable to do the splits but it helps if your younger b/c you loose cartilage as you get older so you would have to stretch more the older you got but yes everyone is capable of tdoing the splits! :)

Yes! everyone can do the splits, but not everyone can do the middle splits! that's all to do with your hip bones, and not everyone is structured in the certain way that requires the ability for middle splits!

it all depends on the length of your muscles. if you have short muscles, like my sister, you may never be able to do a split, and she is VERY in shape.
