The correct answer is "Danseur Nobel." A "Ballerina" is the title for only one dancer in a company and that is the top female dancer. The rest are just called ballet dancers or by their rank such as soloist or principal dancer etc. The "Danseur Nobel" is her counterpart.

The term "Cavalier" is used for any male dancer only when he is partnering the company's Ballerina. Just as "ballet dancer" is used in English speaking countries, in Italy they do use *Ballerino and Ballerina for ANY ballet dancer depending on gender. That is where the word ballerina originated from. In France the term Danseurs are used for male ballet dancers. Also above principal dancers is the rank of "Etolie" which means "star" in french and that is for either gender. I hope I have cleared this up for you a bit.

* If you call a male ballet dancer a "Ballerino" outside of Italy you are libel to get hit by them. They refer to themselves as a "Danseur Nobel" or even a "Danseur" if they have not achieve that high a rank yet.

You just call them dancers, thats what we call them at our studio and at out Metro-sponsor. Yeah, Ballerina is a term reserved for females :) and good luck on that drawing! :)
