Right for my dance in the show we are doing you need black shoes and I'm not getting pumps because you slip everywhere in them, so I was thinking of getting some jazz shoes because nearly all the girls in my class with be wearing them for the dance but is there like any experience in classes or requirements you have to have before getting them like if you want to get on to pointe you have to of gone ballet for quite a lot of years and everything or can I just buy some
Thanks:) x

Anyone can buy jazz shoes and unlike ballet shoes you don't have to wear them in to the same extent. Also they don't come in pointe or anything of that sort.

There are several types: laceup, elastic, low profile, sneaker, split-sole, half sole, full sole, rubber sole, leather sole. The most common for beginner dancers is a laceup split rubber sole.

If the dancing is not too complex, and depending on the floor surface, you could consider wearing a pair of black socks. The audience may not be able to tell the difference and you will get sufficient traction/slipperiness for most jazz moves, but may not be safe if you are performing major tricks.

I would definitely not advise wearing pumps or any other street shoe.
