Keep doing dance or quit to cheer?

So I have been dancing ever since I was 4 years old, but I just joined the competition team last year around this time (12 years old). I was really excited but soon I realized that I had no friends ): I also started with littler girls in my class so it was really hard to make friends and in my 2 dances they have all been there since the studio opened or since they were old enough to join (6 years) and they all had their little groups of friends and its awkward going to dance because I really don't have anyone to talk to. I have been thinking of quitting ever since to join cheerleading. Here's why:

One of my best friends at school has been cheering ever since she was little and I obviously won't make her team but my 2 other close friends really want to do cheer too. Katrina's parents said that she could try out if she wanted and Mckenzie's parents are really sporty and hate girly sports but I know Mckenzie wants to cheer because she used to dance with me in rec classes and her parents made her quit because of soccer but she always makes up dances and stuff with me so she might go to the meeting and we will see. Anywho if I did cheer I would most likely get on Katrina's and Mckenzie's team (if she can tryout) and I know sports are mainly about friendship so it would be easy to make friends if I already have some, unlike dance.

Okay, so now I am going to list the pros and cons.
DANCE PROS: Have already been on the team so I won't be the "new girl", probably will get in a harder class this year, tons of different styles of dance unlike cheer, better rep.
DANCE CONS: Hardly any friends, harder, longer practices (8-12 hours a week), no one at school does dance.
CHEER PROS: Already have friends, seems like fun, easier, shorter practices (depends on team of course but I will start in an easier one)
CHEER CONS: Will be the "new girl" again, bad rep, trouble with tumbling, flexible but can't be flyer because I will be in easier team with younger girls who obviously weigh less than me, never get a chance of having a competition 1 day because you have to preform 2 days.

I want to quit dance, but if I do I feel like I would be throwing everything I worked so hard for away. However, if I don't do cheer I feel I might get left out not that most of my friends will do it and if I joined the next year I would be too old to start. What do you think?

If a sport is just a sport to you, and you're just doing it to have fun, then I honestly think you should quit. If you've been thinking about it for a while and you still want to, then it might be the best choice. IF dance and cheer are purely about FUN and friendships to you, then why wouldn't you choose cheer, right?

But if there's something more to it, and you are passionate about dance and you care about excelling as a dancer more than friendship, then stick with it. And definitely dont rule it out because its harder. First of all, you can make friends. Just because everyone already knows eachother doesn't mean you can't become friends with them. You might just have to be very outgoing. Also, not every studio is as clique-y as you've described yours. Switching studios might be an option. If you really care about learning dance/want to go somewhere with it, stick with it. And if you don't, that's perfectly fine, some people are just looking for a fun after school activity to do with their friends. Nothing wrong with that.

You ultimately have to decide what your goal is. Is it to learn dance or to have fun and make friends? Either one is a valid option. It seems to me that you'd rather be with friends, so I'd say do cheer. Just an opinion. No sense wasting your parents money on something youre not enjoying. And hey, if you decide you really miss dance and cheer leading isn't as fun as you thought, you can always switch back to dance the year after.

I had this same clash a number of years ago i've had a couple of leg surgeries and cant point my right toe all of the way down so doing ballet and stuff wasn't very good. I like dance however i've done tumbling longer than i've danced and also you dont must point your toe as a lot. So i did swap and i love cheer but its manner hard in your physique and its alot distinct than dance. I love it higher because i like moving and i cant stand to sit there and lift my leg one of a kind approaches whilst retaining on to a bar i like jazz dance and my instructor was once a dancer so she comprises some jazz into our routines the counts are definitely more difficult due to the fact that you might be continuously relocating and in case you arent at your stunt team on the proper rely then the whole factor goes down so it really relies on if you are capable to work three times as difficult additionally f you might have danced your entire lifestyles dancing is most of the time something you rather love and in the event you quit for a few years you will free some of your process and if you want to go back later it might be more difficult. Sorry if i was once kinda discouraging however i simply need you to understand the truth btw im 14

I would say it depends on what you want to do. If u don't like dance why do it, if its not a passion then why keep doing it. If you think you might enjoy cheer then go for it, it's Alot of fun but hard to. Don't join something just because ur friends doing it u might not enjoy it. And if its an option for do both the dance would help some in cheer to. Hope this helps.(:

it really depends on what you're passionate about and what makes you happy. I think you should definitely continue dancing sense you've done it all your life :)
