So my whole life my mom has been my biggest critic. I've never been able to do what I've wanted to do. Until i finally got to start living with my dad, he said I could finally take ballet classes if i really want to. I'm 17 years old, and 5'0. Everyone is telling me i should just forget about it because i'm almost an adult, but i can't. I guess I just need to hear from someone, that you're never too old to start ballet, so i can rebuild some self confidence. Thank you. :/

You definitely are never too old. I started ballet at 14 in a teen beginner class, and I was the youngest there! Now at 15 I take classes with 13,16, 17, and 18 year olds, so you aren't too old. Ballet is so much fun, and it really helped with self-confidence, posture, and ability to perform. I loved ballet so much that I picked up more classes (with younger girls) at a ballet academy, and I even have a role in their production of "The Nutcracker" this year.

Sign up for a teen or adult beginner class. Adult beginner classes often have teens in them, but a teen class would be ideal. Have fun dancing, I know I do!

I am 23 years old and have always wanted to dance ballet. It was always a dream of mine, but coming from such a small town and throwing myself into my career I never danced. Now, I have been dancing since July and really started in September. I dance several nights a week. However, the advice I give you is to go a well known ballet academy/school in your area and talk to them about your goals. Going to an adult beginning class will teach you, but from what it sounds like you really want to learn technique and what a real ballerina entails. I went to a classical ballet school and they are starting me in level 3, and for only dancing a few months I believe its quite the honor. I told them my goal was to become the best dancer I could possibly be even if that meant I was 30 before I reached that goal. Going to open classes really isn't the way to go, if you really want to learn you are going to have to start where your level is, and that may be a level 1, but just know because you are older you will advance faster than a lot of girls in your class. I am dancing with 10 year old's to 17 year old's, but it doesn't matter the age, it matters what you take from the class. Good luck, and if I can pursue dancing so can you.

You're right, it's never too late to start ballet!

I started when I was 13, and now I'm 15, and I have improved SOOO much! I mean, I'm in 10th grade and most people in my level are in like 7th or 8th grade (some in 9th and two in 10th, besides me) but they've moved me up several levels (I've skipped a level each year) and I really like it.

My advice to you is to start stretching! Like right now! It has helped me SOOOO much and I would really start that soon too because at some point it's hard for your body to become flexible. Stretch everyday for about 20-30 minutes and hold each stretch for about 15-30 seconds, at least. Try to get your splits, too! And start stretching your feet with a "thera-band" that helps a lot.

Good luck!

I say you need to. stick on your desires! yet whilst do no longer anticipate to enhance right into a specialist or get a job in ballet, till your a prodigy. I have not any concept the place you reside so i do no longer understand the way it works there, yet i do no longer understand of anyplace that turns down someone who needs to income. actually i do. forget approximately that. you need to pass online and seek ballet aspects that are close to by using, you are able to ask them questions in case you pass to there place or %. up a brochure. i'm making plans to do many stuff i could no longer do via fact of my mum and dad when I turn 18 (no longer something unlawful or undesirable). i think of you need to to. you in lots of situations had to be one and now here is your hazard! hear on your heart! wow, i'm being so corny right this moment, yet i propose it approximately following your desires. better of success and could power! I'm 34 and in my second year of ballet. Just because you are an adult doesn't mean you can't learn something new.
