I'm 20, and I want to start dancing at like a studio. Just as a hobby.

It's really hard to find a dance studio who teaches Adults, so if you could look up studios for me, in or around Livonia, Michigan

Oh yeah how much do they cost?

thanks

If it's just a hobby, I'd go with Jazz or Tap! If you start wanting to dance more add in ballet. Ballet is the building blocks to ALL forms of dance.

I googled "dance studios near Livonia, Michigan"

Babra Hatch School of Dance

http://bhdance.com/

This one has Adult Hip Hop, Ballet and Jazz. Each is five classes for $60

Positive Attitude Dance Academy

http://www.positiveattitudedance.com/

"Cost is $50.00 for 5 weeks for 45 minute classes and $60.00 for 5 weeks for one hour classes"

This one has a few Adult/Teen Beginning and Intermediate Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Tap classes

I started dance when I was 8. I live in a small town where the only dance studio used to be so expensive, and it was a half hour away! But, a new studio opened with a local dancer as the owner and very reasonable prices,so my mom thought my sisters and I should give it a shot. We tried Ballet and Jazz. I loved it, but my sisters didn't like it very much. We did tap over the summer, then my sisters quit and the teacher had problems and left. The next year I did only jazz and this past year I did jazz, ballet, and lyrical because I learned to love dance so much! I really learned how fun it was this past year, and this present year I'm 11 and I'm taking ballet, jazz, pop, pointe, and lyrical. It is just so fun! So maybe I didn't start at age 2 like other dancers, but at least this way I got to decide to dance or not, not be forced like my friends who dance, and I really got into it! Keep dancing!!!

I would start with something like hip hop. as long as you love dancing hip hop is a great place to start because outside of classes you can practice at the clubs or at home and not feel as uncomfortable. once you get started there I would add jazz and ballet. It may sound scary, but ballet will make you a better all around dancer! and Jazz is just plain amazing!

look into these studios, I don't live in the area, but this is what i found through a google search:

www.feltondance.com

http://www.chase-dance.com/Studio/SchedulesSummer.html

also check any rec. centers. Sometimes they have dance classes.

I would look up dance studios in the phone book and call the studios asking if they have adult classes. Quite often they don't list their adult classes online.

Hope this helps!

Definitely ballet !

It strengthens your legs, improves balance and posture, and teaches basic movements for all other types of dance.

You could always take another class in addition to ballet too ;] I would then recommend either lyrical or jazz as an addition to ballet.

Not sure how good any of these dance studios are, but you can always check them out. Just the result of a quick google search.

These three studios have websites -

And here is a list of others without their own websites -

I would recomend starting with ballet since it is the foundation of dance. I don't know why you couldn't have looked up the studios your self but here are some:

Forget the ballet, look for folk dancing. Eastern European dancing is fun and (not always easy) energetic. It can be challenging but it's a blast.

i would start with jazz. Its easy and deffinately fun. It is also a good way to build your legs, so u can try more difficult levels of dance

if you are looking for something calm and soothing try ballet

more active and upbeat try hip hop or jazz/tap

or you could join a salsa samba class near your gym
